We will do our best to make it as easy to understand as possible, however, please refer to the VHSA and USET websites for additional clarification. 

Division Descriptions

 

$500 ECHSA Hunter Challenge

Course of fences in which score given to horse & rider. Fences: S- 2'3 M - 2'6 L and Horses 3'.  The top 8 will be called back in for a 2nd test provided by the judge and may be over fences or under saddle.

Adult Amateur Hunter:

Open to horses ridden by an amateur. To be judged on performance, manners and way of going. Fences shall be no lower than 2'6.  May be combined with Children's Hunter with points submitted to the VHSA accordingly. Amateurs may not ride ponies.

Baby Green Hunter Horse

Adults may ride ponies.  Fences shall be no lower than 18"

Breed Conformation

 

Children’s Hunter:

Open to horses ridden by juniors.  To be judged on performance, manners and way of going. Fences shall be no lower than 2'6. May be combined with Adult Amateur Hunter with points submitted to the VHSA accordingly.  Juniors may not ride ponies.

ECHSA/VHSA Equitation (Junior, Pony, Adult):

Adult: Open to adults mounted on horses.  Riders may be asked to return to show at a walk, trot and canter and to perform additional tests at the judge’s discretion. Jump heights determined by the ECHSA. Fences no lower than 2'6.  May be combined with Children's'/Junior and Pony Equitation at the discretion of the management of ECHSA. Points at the ECHSA Lexington Warm-Up will be double points.

Children's/Junior: Open to juniors mounted on horses.  Riders may be asked to return to show at a walk, trot and canter and to perform additional tests at the judge’s discretion. Fences no lower than 2'6.  May be combined with Pony and Adult Equitation at the discretion of the management of ECHSA. Points at the ECHSA Lexington Warm-Up will be double points.

Pony: Open to juniors mounted on ponies who are either a VHSA Regular or Associate member.  Riders may be asked to return to show at a walk, trot and canter and to perform additional tests at the judge’s discretion. Fences shall be no lower than 18" for Small, 2' for Medium and 2'6 for Large—2’6.  May be combined with Children's'/Junior and Adult Equitation at the discretion of the management of ECHSA. Points at the ECHSA Lexington Warm-Up will be double points.

Green Hunter Horse;

Open to horses of any age in their first or second year of showing.  To be judged on performance, manners and way of going. Fences shall be no lower than 2’6.  This division may be combined with the Green Pony Division with points submitted to the VHSA accordingly.

A horse's green status is not affected if that horse has not been shown at more than three competitions prior to May 15th of that show year.

Green Hunter Pony:

Open to ponies of any age in their first year of showing and mounted by juniors only. To be judged on performance, manners and way of going.  Fences shall be no lower than 18" for Small, 2' for Medium and 2'6 for Large—2’6.  This division may be combined with the Green Hunter Horse Division and points will be submitted to the VHSA accordingly. 

Pony green status is not affected if the pony has not been shown more than three competitions prior to May 15 of any competition year.

Pleasure Horse

Open to horses.  Judged on manners and way of going.  Riders and horses may cross enter into any other division for which they qualify.  Under saddle shall be WTC/WGAYP/WTC.  May be combined with the Pleasure Pony division at the discretion of the ECHSA management.

Pleasure Pony

Open to ponies ridden by junior riders.  Judged on manners and way of going. Riders and ponies may cross enter into any other division for which they qualify.  Under saddle shall be WTC/WGAYP/WTC.  May be combined with with the Adult Hunter Pleasure Horse and/or the Junior Hunter Pleasure Divisions. All pony divisions including warm-ups are restricted to junior riders only.

Long Stirrup

Open to riders who are 13 years of age and older.   Fences -  18" - 2' - WTC

Short Stirrup

Open to juniors who have not reached their 13th birthday as of Dec. 1.  Under saddle class will be a walk/trot/canter.  May not cross enter into any other VHSA Associate Division with exception of the Pleasure Pony or Pleasure Horse on the same show day.  However, they may participate in any other ECHSA division that does not accrue VHSA points. Riders may only ride 2 separate mounts on the same show day.  To be judged as an Equitation class. Riders are permitted to cross enter for the ECHSA Lexington Warm-up only, but will not be permitted during the actual Lexington Finals. Fences will be no lower than 18" and no higher than 2' with no less than four jumps.

Small/Medium/Large Pony:

Open to ponies ridden by juniors only.  Judged on performance, manners and way of going.  Fences will be no lower than 18" for Small, 2' for Medium and 2'6.  Combining or separating of pony sizes is up to ECHSA.  VHSA members who show at an ECHSA show will have their points sent in according to pony size.  ECHSA Lexington Warm-up fence heights will be as follows: Small - 2' Medium - 2'3 and Large - 2'9.

Special Hunter

Open to horses or ponies ridden by juniors.  To be judged on performance, soundness and way of going.  Fences 2’ and 2’6.  Riders are permitted to cross enter for the ECHSA Lexington Warm-up only, but will not be permitted during the actual Lexington Finals. 

Walk-Trot: 

Open to ponies and horses ridden by juniors and adults  Judged on manners and way of going.  Riders may cross enter into any other divisions for which they qualify.

Walk-Trot-Canter:

Open to ponies and horses ridden by juniors and adults.  Judged on manners and way of going.  Riders may cross enter into any other divisions for which they qualify.

Working Hunter

Open to horses in their first or second year of showing in the VHSA Associate program over green horse regulation height.  To be judge on performance, manners, and way of going.  Fences no lower than 2’6”. 

Working Hunter:

Open to horses in their first or second year of showing in the VHSA Associate program over green horse regulation height.  To be judge on performance, manners, and way of going.  Fences 2’9”.

Jumpers

Beginner Jumper

        Open to horses and ponies in their 1st or 2nd year of showing in jumper classes at any height as of December 1st of the current show year. 

Children’s/Adult Amateur Jumper

Fences shall be no lower than 2'6" in height and no greater than 3'3" in height.  Spreads shall be no greater than the height of the fence.

Low Jumper

Fences shall be no lower than 2'6" in height and no greater than 3' in height.  Spreads shall be no greater than height of the fence. 

Modified Jumper

Fences shall be no lower than 3'6" in height and no greater than 4' in height.  Spreads shall be no greater than the height of the fence. 

Novice Children’s/Adult Amateur Jumper 

Open to children and adult amateurs in their 1st or 2nd year of showing in jumper classes at any height as of December 1st of the current show year.   This division shall be no lower than 2' 3" and no higher than 2' 6"Riders in this division may only cross enter into Novice Jumper, if eligible and Low Jumper.

Novice Jumper

Open to horses and ponies in their 1st or 2nd year of showing in jumper classes at any height as of December 1st of the current show year.  This division shall be no lower than 2' 3" and no higher than 2' 6".  Horses and ponies in this division may only cross enter into Novice Children’s/Adult Amateur Jumper if the rider is eligible, and Low Jumper.   

Schooling Jumper

Fences shall be no lower than 3' in height and no greater than 3'6" in height.  Spreads shall be no greater than the height of the fence.
